• Recipient of two of India’s highest civilian honors, the Padma Shri (1989) and the Padma Bhushan (2005)
• Conferred with the highest French distinction Chevalier del’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) in 2016.
